The FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) is a legal authority which provides a food license to every FBO (food business operator) in India. All the food business operators should follow every one of the rules & regulations of FSSAI for food quality control.
An FBO needs an FSSAI Registration and License and it depends on some facts like the production size, managing nature of food business activities, and a variety of operations. In the process of FSSAI Registration, the food business operator will get a fourteen-digit number which has to be printed on food packages.
- Petty manufacturers manufacturing by itself
- A temporary stall selling food.
- Companies involved in selling food at a religious or social gathering, except caterers.
- Cottage industries related to food products
- Processing or production units of vegetable oil by the procedure of refineries and solvent extraction including oil expeller system. With the ability to offer not more than 100 kg/litre a day (apart from meat or milk).
- Dairy units, engaged in the collection/ procurement/chilling/ handling of milk, having a facility of not over 500 litres a day, or up to 2.5 Metric tons of milk solids yearly.
- A slaughtering ability of not over two large animals or ten small animals or fifty poultry birds a day.
- Proprietary Foods
- Hotels with four-star ratings or less than that or that have been rated five-star or more.
